2009: A Very Happy Halloween

1...Super Girl costume with my former coworkers on Friday.  I <3 Stephanie (Poison Ivy), btw.  Mandy (Robin) kicks ass too.
2...Cowgirl costume at my church's Fall Festival for the kids.  I was really stressed out on Saturday bc I was organizing two booths and running short on prep-time.  Luckily, my childhood bestfriend Vi from Dallas drove into town, and helped me with my stress levels.
3...Ghostbusters costume in downtown.  Vi wore a Girl Scout costume, and handed out cookies to drunk people.  She loves Halloween, and broke my 9-year record of avoiding downtown Austin for Halloween.  She's the total opposite of a girl scout, btw, and cusses like a sailor. haha

Below:
The two booths that I helped organize were: Nail Polish/Tattoo/Face Painting Booth AND Pumpkin Shooting, where the kids get to shoot jack-o-lantern's candles out with water guns.  The booths were a success, thanks to the volunteers that helped with the shifts.  They saved my butt. =)

I wanted to be a Sriacha bottle too!  But ran out-of-time about making a new pointy hat.  Gotta have a hat!!!

My friend Christina wore a penguin costume a few years ago, and it really cracked me up.  She wore a sumo wrestler costume the following year, lol.  Here is a group I saw out on 6th Street for nostalgic reasons.

This is the picture of our group that we ran around with that night.  So many random and funny things happened with all the different personalities...made the night really fun.  We capped the night off with a Britney Spears karaoke-thon, with yours truly singing the ballads.  Special thanks to everyone (L-R): In-Tai, Sunny, Whoo-Jang, Vi, Jamie, and Peter for a memorable night.

...nearly choked on my back spit from laughing. :D

At the end of the grueling four-hour drive and mishaps from the weekend, it's nice to know that I get to see my mom soon!  While I was gone, she stayed at my house, and filled my shelf in the fridge with her always-too-many groceries.  She's in town for some business.  Just seeing that shelf, and knowing her little quirks....it cheered me up instantly.  That's why I nearly choked on my back-spit from laughing.  Sorta makes me want to move closer to Home.

Also, the trip in Dallas was almost futile.  It's okay though, bc everyone was pretty understanding.  I was the last person Aurora saw when she was running to the honeymoon car with her husband as newlyweds.  She turned to wave at everyone, saw me, her eyes were wide, we exchanged words, and hugged.  I just felt bad that I missed everything, but thankful I was able to make it in time for the send-off and rose-petal-tossing goodbyes.  We waved until she was out-of-sight.

Another ray of light from the weekend was hanging out with my longtime childhood friend Vi.  Her and her sister Quyen know the good, the bad, and the ugly about me.  Vi helped keep me calm when everything was going wrong, and after hearing my stories of my silly decision-making over the phone, she would laugh and just say, "That's just how you are.  Geez!  I tell you all the time.  Where are you?  Come over and we'll go to dinner." :)

So, after that last-leg of driving in my original "master plan" of a 4-day-weekend, walking around the house, I almost took things for granted like I usually can....and after seeing the overly crowded veggies on the top shelf of the fridge, remembered that my mom is on her way here now, after her long hard day.  Knowing that when she walks in, she'll relate to me about the mishaps of her day, and spend her time with me.  Remembering that she's one of the strongest women I know and that I'm a huge sap.

Dallas: Muddy Buddy

Last weekend, I went with Bao-Tran and her family to Dallas.  Her husband Andrew, their daughter Evie, her cousins Anh Hap and Christina joined with us too.  It was a road trip for an event called the Muddy Buddy.  The teams were: Wasabi Warriors (Bao-Tran & Andrew), Red Hot Rooster Wreckers (Christina & I), and the Soy Sauce Sippers (Anh Hap and his brother Anh Bao).  Yes, we all wanted Asian-sauce inspired names with fun alliterations.  :)  It was super-awesome!  Bao-Tran designed our t-shirts, and I just love our team names.  We had team colors too!!  Check out the pix below.

The race itself was pretty much a 5K run & 5K biking.  We would leap frog with our partners every other mile either biking or running with an obstacle such as climbing a rock wall at every exchange.  At the very end, we went thru a 50 ft length of mud on our bellies with our partner.  Hence, we are Muddy Buddies!

Special shout-out: Bao-Tran, you are the BEST!! <33333333333

Above: Walking to the race area to get ready.  I was half-awake in this pic.

Above: Sriacha Red Rooster bottles!!  I'm doubling this up as one of my Halloween costume this year. =)

Above: Wasabi Warriors!!!  The dynamic duo, Bao-Tran & Andrew!  Notice that the sushi on their shirts are animated & armed with a large cleaver!

Above: The warm-up! ;)  Every warrior has to have a sword.  My fave pic of the whole set.  hehe

Above: Bao-Tran & Andrew pictured in the mud pit.

Above: I was more than enthused to get mud on a white Range Rover.  I felt like a muddy frog splattering the side doors. oh, and yeah, we took off our shoes, socks, and timers.  Our official time is unknown!  Bao-Tran was joking that the organizers would probably send out a search party for us. haha

Above:  All the teams together.  A clean pic of us. =)  I had uber-fun!! Probably finishing the race was the best part of the event. =)
