Dallas: Muddy Buddy

Last weekend, I went with Bao-Tran and her family to Dallas.  Her husband Andrew, their daughter Evie, her cousins Anh Hap and Christina joined with us too.  It was a road trip for an event called the Muddy Buddy.  The teams were: Wasabi Warriors (Bao-Tran & Andrew), Red Hot Rooster Wreckers (Christina & I), and the Soy Sauce Sippers (Anh Hap and his brother Anh Bao).  Yes, we all wanted Asian-sauce inspired names with fun alliterations.  :)  It was super-awesome!  Bao-Tran designed our t-shirts, and I just love our team names.  We had team colors too!!  Check out the pix below.

The race itself was pretty much a 5K run & 5K biking.  We would leap frog with our partners every other mile either biking or running with an obstacle such as climbing a rock wall at every exchange.  At the very end, we went thru a 50 ft length of mud on our bellies with our partner.  Hence, we are Muddy Buddies!

Above: Walking to the race area to get ready.  I was half-awake in this pic.

Above: Sriacha Red Rooster bottles!!  I'm doubling this up as one of my Halloween costume this year. =)

Above: Wasabi Warriors!!!  The dynamic duo, Bao-Tran & Andrew!  Notice that the sushi on their shirts are animated & armed with a large cleaver!

Above: The warm-up! ;)  Every warrior has to have a sword.  My fave pic of the whole set.  hehe

Above: Bao-Tran & Andrew pictured in the mud pit.

Above: I was more than enthused to get mud on a white Range Rover.  I felt like a muddy frog splattering the side doors. oh, and yeah, we took off our shoes, socks, and timers.  Our official time is unknown!  Bao-Tran was joking that the organizers would probably send out a search party for us. haha

Above:  All the teams together.  A clean pic of us. =)  I had uber-fun!! Probably finishing the race was the best part of the event. =)

i like Graph Jam.

------------------------------

I really like reading the Graph Jam blog!  I added the site to my Google Reader actually, have you used Google Reader before?  It consolidates all your blogs subscriptions onto one-page, and updates automatically like reading the front-page news!  Anyway, as dorky as it sounds, Graph Jam really cracks me up sometimes, and I really like this latest one about writing essays.

Specifically, earlier today (before I saw this graph), I got my essay back, and my prof wrote, "a bit unclear," for one paragraph.  Which means I fall into the the orange zone of, "doesn't make sense!" Impeccable timing.

Speaking of essays and school -- school is going very well.  I'm trying hard to stay on-top of the coursework and meeting all my homework and lab report deadlines.  I have study-buddies in every class and lab bc we have the same schedule, practically...which makes everything more fun and shares the stress-load.  The classes I'm taking are language acquisition, intro to audiology, speech science, and intro to comm disorders.  In my labs, I'm learning a lot of the procedures and responsibilities of a speech path and an audiologist such as transcriptions and using an audiometer, also observing therapy sessions at the UT Hearing and Speech Center.

Right now, I'm privately tutoring two students, but I do need a part-time job!  Gotta get back to lining up interviews and cranking out those resumes and applications.  Wish me luck!  Time is flying by, and I still need to make room for fun and relaxation.... oh yeah, and exercise.

The kitty is so cute.

Glen converted me to MAC!  It took me nearly a year to make the decision, and I bought a laptop.   I still have my 9 y/o computer handy.  The os that Glen installed is called Snow Leopard by MAC, and this kitty is on the cover.  I like the kitty!  I like snow too!  The above pic is my current desktop.  Sadly, the snow leopard is an endangered species.  I wish more could be done for wildlife conservation.
